Truck With Fake License Plate Found With Drugs and May Be Linked to Construction Site Theft After Stop Sticks End Pursuit

In Clay County Missouri, officers stopped a truck with a fake license plate after a pursuit with the help of Stop Sticks.  What the officers found inside the vehicle turned the case into something completely different.

Theft in Missouri

            Construction site theft occurs enough for concern in Clay County, Missouri.  People steal materials and tools that cost a lot of money for the construction site, and is a big deal when the theft happens.  Public Relations Manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office had this to say about construction site theft: “Sometimes, they target copper and metals… So, it’s not like they were just sneaking a few little things out of there.  It’s very large, so it had to take some work, loading and unloading.”  In this case, there were thousands of dollars’ worth of material stolen from a site near 115^th and Plattsburg Road.  The overall cost was roughly $5,000 worth of stolen goods and damage.

A Pursuit

            Clay County deputies started extra patrols in the area to try to find the thief.  While on the look, deputies noticed a truck with a fake license plate.  This caused the deputies to attempt to make a simple traffic stop, but the truck took off.  A chase began, and the officers had to use Stop Sticks, which deflated one of the rear tires.  After this the truck stopped, and a man and woman exited the car to surrender.  When the deputies looked inside, they found a large amount of drug paraphernalia in the truck.

Aftermath

            When arrested, the officer asked the people why they were in the area.  One of them replied that they were looking for scraps in the area.  This was enough for the officers to being an investigation on the two.  They are gathering evidence to tie the two for the thefts. Currently, the driver is being charged with resisting arrest for fleeing.

Sarah Boyd told reporters that they try to find new ways to proactively stop crime, and it worked today.  By adding extra patrols and using Stop Sticks to end the pursuit, the deputies may have just found the suspects of a major theft in the area.  Even if they are not the suspects, the officers were able to stop dangerous driver will illegal substances in their car.  The proactive and inventive thinking helped Clay County in a major way.
