In Chesterton, Indiana, Stop Sticks lead police to find theft and fraud suspect.  A high-speed pursuit took a turn when the person in the vehicle became a suspect of multiple thefts and frauds.

A Criminal on the Loose

            Recently in Chesterton, there have been multiple cases of theft and fraud going around.  The issue was growing, and police were aware and on the look.  When the Chesterton Police Department noticed a certain vehicle, they thought they found the suspect.

The Chase

            While patrolling the road, the Chesterton Police used a Flock License Plate Reader, and they received an alert that connected the driver to the string of theft and fraud.  Once they received the alert, they attempted to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle decided not to pull over and started a pursuit.  The chase continued for about twenty miles, until a Stop Stick was deployed.  The deployment was very successful, deflating the front two tires and bringing the car to a stop.  Once the vehicle stopped, police were able to bring in the driver without any more incident.

Aftermath

            The driver of the vehicle was 28-year-old Courtney Barnes.  The officer charged him with resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.  He also had active warrants for arrest for theft.  He is currently in jail on a cash only $5,000 bond.  After the Plate Reading and past history of theft, Barnes has become a top suspect for the theft and fraud cases around Chesterton, so additional charges are anticipated.

         Thankfully, the police were able to successfully deploy the Stop Sticks to arrest this threat to the town.  The police were willing to do anything to put an end to the crime.  With the help of different tools such as the flock License Plate Reader and great police work, Stop Sticks lead police to find theft and fraud suspect.
