SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – A Gering man is facing multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a series of vehicle pursuits Thursday evening that spanned several hours across Scottsbluff and Terrytown.

Montell Red Bear, 29, was arrested late Thursday night after Scottsbluff Police used stop sticks to disable a white 2003 Cadillac he was driving. According to police, Red Bear led officers on three separate high-speed pursuits, at times exceeding 50 miles per hour in residential neighborhoods and continuing to flee even after the car was running on three flat tires.

The incident began around 7 p.m. on April 3, when officers attempted a traffic stop near Broadway and 20th Street after confirming that Red Bear was driving on a suspended Nebraska license. The vehicle fled, and a female passenger was seen exiting the car at 22nd Street and Avenue B. The woman later told police she had pleaded to be let out but was not allowed to exit initially.

Police terminated the first pursuit near Avenue G and West 20th Street due to dangerous speeds. Red Bear evaded a second attempted stop at approximately 9:17 p.m., again reaching speeds over 50 mph through neighborhoods. Officers observed several traffic violations before ending that pursuit near Avenue G and West 19th Street.

Around 11:08 p.m., officers spotted the Cadillac again — this time driving without lights in Terrytown. The vehicle was moving slowly, about 8 mph, when stop sticks were deployed on South Street. Red Bear accelerated despite three flat tires and continued fleeing on Stable Club Road and Avenue I before the vehicle became disabled, where he was taken into custody.

2. DCSO Helps End Crime Spree – Colorado

On April 2nd, 2025 deputies from Swings A, K-9, and Traffic units responded to a request from Colorado State Patrol to assist in pursuing a stolen vehicle that had been carjacked at gunpoint in Arvada, CO.
A CSP aircraft located the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on I-25. DCSO deputies deployed stop sticks and executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) to bring the pursuit to an end. Following the stop, both occupants fled on foot, but were quickly taken into custody by DCSO deputies.

7. Denver murder suspect caught in central Nebraska extradited back to Colorado – Colorado

A suspect wanted in connection with a Denver homicide who was arrested in central Nebraska has been extradited back to Colorado.

Court records say he is facing two counts of 1st-Degree Murder, two counts of 2nd-Degree Murder, four counts of Aggravated Robbery, two counts of 1st-Degree Burglary, and a count of 2nd-Degree Burglary in Colorado.

Vega was charged in Nebraska with Felony and Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, but that case has since been dismissed.

According to an arrest affidavit in the Nebraska case, a Nebraska State trooper spotted a vehicle on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg that was connected to a Denver homicide.

Troopers learned that Vega may have been traveling with a woman who may have been abducted and taken hostage.

Around 9:25 a.m. a pursuit began as the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, a Nissan Rogue.

The vehicle eluded two spike strip attempts and the pursuit continued into Cozad before traveling westbound on Highway 30 from Cozad.

Court records say before leaving Cozad, the vehicle nearly collided with two other innocent motorists and reached speeds of nearly 100 mph.

The affidavit says a third spike strip attempt was successful at deflating the left, front tire.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 52-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly pointing a gun at police and leading officers on a slow-speed chase near Indianapolis International Airport Monday night.

According to airport police, officers responded to a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly in the parking lot of Signature Aviation around 10 p.m. March 31. The driver was reportedly trying to ram through a gate to get access to the airport grounds.

The first officer to arrive on the scene, told dispatchers an older man was pointing a handgun at him. The officer backed off and gave commands for the man to put the gun down and surrender, but he refused.

Other officers arrived on the scene and the man allegedly tried to leave the scene but became engaged in a short standoff with officers on South High School Road at Turner Drive. Police say an officer deployed “less-lethal munitions,” which proved to be unsuccessful.

The suspect then got back into his car and drove slowly south on South High School Road. The man occasionally stopped his car, revved his engine, then drove off again, as officers gave verbal commands through a speaker.

IMPD officers deployed spike strips at South High School Road and West Hanna Avenue, which reportedly deflated all four of the tires on the suspect’s vehicle. The driver of the car stopped a short distance later on West Hanna Avenue, police said.

9. One person in custody after vehicle hits state trooper’s cruiser, police say – Connecticut

WATERFORD — One person was taken into custody after a vehicle struck a state police cruiser on Interstate 395 Monday.

The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. State police used stop sticks and were able to safely bring the vehicle to a stop on I-95 south in the area of Exit 71.

The trooper whose cruiser was struck was not injured in the incident. Police have not identified the person who was in custody.

The state Department of Transportation reported that I-95 South near Exit 71 was closed at around 9:15 a.m., and the area reopened at around 10:40 a.m.

10. Suspect with missing front tire leads Mobile PD on wild I-65 chase

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — A driver, who appeared from traffic cam footage to be missing the right front tire of the white sedan, led Mobile Police on a chase on I-65 southbound Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Mobile Police Department says an officer tried to pull the driver over for missing a front tire near Shelton Beach Road and Moffett Road, but the driver refused to stop.

During the chase, speeds reportedly reached 90 mph. An officer deployed a spike strip near the Airport Boulevard exit, but the driver kept traveling southbound. The driver then hit additional spike strips near the 1-65-1-10 interchange, which shredded the one front tire the driver had.
