(Grand Portage, MN) – Police have a man in custody after he refused to stop at a border checkpoint in northern Minnesota.
Specifically, U.S. Customs and Border Protection called Cook County dispatch on Monday after the driver refused to stop at the Grand Portage Port of Entry. Consequently, Minnesota State Patrol troopers successfully deployed Stop Sticks east of Grand Marais, leading directly to the arrest of the 31-year-old driver.

A Boone County deputy sheriff shot and wounded the suspect in a Waterville, Maine homicide early Sunday morning. The original killing happened on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Arkansas State Police, at approximately 12:58 a.m., the Boone County Sheriff’s Office in Harrison requested ASP assistance with an officer-involved shooting in Bellefonte.
Flippin Police officers responded earlier to a suspicious vehicle call. There, they found 20-year-old Spridal P. Hubiak of Waterville asleep in his car. After identifying Hubiak, who uses the nickname “Spiral,” police learned that Maine authorities wanted him for a homicide. Police attempted to arrest Hubiak, but he fled the scene.

On Saturday, December 30, 2023, at about 5:17 a.m., a Lake Oswego police officer tried to stop a vehicle for traffic violations. This occurred on Country Club Road at Heathrow Lane. However, the driver continued to drive at or below the speed limit. The driver failed to stop for the officer’s emergency lights and siren.
Meanwhile, other officers were clearing from a nearby call. Therefore, they were able to set up spike strips in the vehicle’s path. They hoped the strips would deflate one or more tires, forcing the vehicle to stop or preventing excessive speeds. The spikes deflated a tire, yet the vehicle continued to drive for a short time. Finally, the vehicle stopped at a red light on Boones Ferry Road. Officers quickly pinned the vehicle in place to prevent it from driving further. Subsequently, they started giving commands to the driver to exit the vehicle.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. – Police arrested two men on Saturday, Dec. 30, following a pursuit in Washington County. Ultimately, the chase ended with the deployment of spike strips.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, just before 1 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy saw a blue Dodge Charger on I-41 northbound near Pioneer Road. The deputy was about to conduct a traffic stop for multiple equipment and moving violations. However, the deputy recognized the vehicle from a previous eluding incident.
On March 19, 2023, for instance, another deputy attempted to stop the same vehicle for similar violations. At that time, the driver fled at speeds of more than 130 mph. Significantly, police never identified the driver after they terminated the earlier pursuit.

Police said they were alerted to the stolen car entering town on Christmas Eve through a “FLOCK LPR system”, which reads plates.
SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — On Christmas Eve in Southington, police stopped a stolen car with four suspects inside as they headed into town using technology and tactics. Those tools include their FLOCK LPR system, and Southington PD’s K9 ‘Tank.’
“In this case, the dog is the greatest asset because they do have the ability to pick up on the scent of the suspect. And in this case, they had just fled the area,” said Lt. Keith Egan with the Southington Police Department.

COPPERAS COVE, Texas — A vehicle pursuit in Central Texas came to an end on Dec. 26 after Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, said DPS.
According to DPS, a trooper working stationary radar on IH-14 in Killeen observed a Lincoln Sedan traveling westbound at a high rate of speed around 11:46 p.m.
DPS reported the vehicle was confirmed to be going 121 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.
>The trooper tried to get the vehicle to stop, said DPS, but the driver failed to yield and continued to travel westbound.
When the Lincoln entered the Copperas Cove city limits, Copperas Cove police reportedly deployed stop sticks, which DPS stated were “effective”.

Stopping the Spectacle: Homicide suspect arrested after firing shots at officers during 4-hour standoff in Southeast Portland – Oregon
The suspect, Jessie Garza III, faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder for the Dec. 14 shooting of Richard Newman.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Authorities arrested a suspect early Friday morning. He was wanted for the Dec. 14 killing of a 58-year-old man. The arrest followed the suspect shooting at police officers in Southeast Portland’s Centennial neighborhood.
Subsequently, a four-hour standoff between 30-year-old Jessie Garza III and police prompted a shelter-in-place alert. The alert covered area residents on Thursday night, but police rescinded it after his arrest.
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported that no officers were injured.
Police booked Garza into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a warrant. He faces charges for first-degree murder with a firearm, coercion with a firearm, two counts of first-degree burglary with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. These charges relate to the Dec. 14 homicide of Richard Newman. Furthermore, Garza also faces charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon for shooting at officers on Thursday night.

Stopping the Spectacle: Man arrested after shots fired near Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, prompting multi-county chase – Pennsylvania
LATROBE, Pa. — A Lancaster man is behind bars. He faces accusations of firing a shotgun several times into a box truck at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe. Furthermore, he led police on a chase across Westmoreland County and into Indiana County on Friday.
Authorities now hold 22-year-old Tyler Mieczkowski at the Westmoreland County Jail after a judge denied him bail.
“Around 1:40, a box truck was exiting the airport,” said Captain Jeff Shearer, with Westmoreland County Park Police. “Upon exiting, shots were fired into the windshield of the vehicle.”
According to Shearer, the driver, who was at the airport to make a delivery, suffered no injuries.
Officers immediately notified State Police and surrounding agencies. They reported that the suspect, now identified as Mieczkowski, took off in a dark-colored Dodge Charger.

A 31-year-old Illinois man is in custody after he led police on a pursuit through Kenosha County and Lake County, Illinois.
KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. – Police took the 31-year-old Illinois man into custody early Friday, Dec. 29, following the pursuit through Kenosha and Lake Counties.
According to the Kenosha Police Department, the pursuit began around 3:20 a.m. Friday. This occurred after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The location was near 52nd Street and Green Bay Road. However, the driver shut off his lights and fled.

ASTORIA Ore. (KPTV) – Deputies stopped a reckless driver with tire spike strips early Friday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the driver took off in their silver 2004 BMW after officers tried to pull them over for a traffic stop in Astoria.
Police said the driver subsequently headed toward Warrenton. There, Warrenton police officers clocked the car driving recklessly at 120 mph.
The last sighting showed the BMW heading east on Highway 26 south of Seaside.
Washington County deputies later spotted the car driving near Highway 26 and Highway 47 and got behind the car, but the driver sped off.
Consequently, deputies then got in front of the speeding BMW and successfully used spike strips to slow it down.

Houston police and Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables stopped a driver who was traveling the wrong way on the I-10 Katy Freeway.
HOUSTON – A camera caught a driver going the wrong way on a Houston highway early Friday morning. Authorities say someone spotted the driver of a red Honda CRV going the wrong way just before 2:30 a.m. on the Katy Freeway near Washington Avenue.

Stopping the Spectacle: Police: Three teens arrested in Nashville; stolen luxury cars, guns, key fobs recovered – Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) arrested three teens after they recovered guns, stolen vehicles and more than a dozen key fobs.
According to Metro Police, officers recovered six guns (at least one stolen), two high-end stolen vehicles, and 19 key fobs Wednesday night. Notably, the investigation involved aerial monitoring of one stolen vehicle as it traveled at 130 mph on the interstate and 100 mph on Bell Road.
Police report the case began around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Specifically, the owner of a $70,000 Mercedes SUV reported that someone stole her vehicle as she walked her dogs in Centennial Park; she left the keys inside. Consequently, detectives used information from Mercedes to electronically locate the vehicle.

Stopping the Spectacle: Hawthorne Man Jailed for Assault on Officer, Vehicle Theft, and Drug Charges – Florida

GAINESVILLE ‒ Police arrested a 37-year-old Hawthorne man on Sunday, Dec. 10, at approximately 10:49 p.m. He allegedly tried to hit an officer with a stolen car and subsequently fled across Gainesville. Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near Ironwood Golf Course. However, the driver allegedly refused to stop and instead recklessly drove through the Eden Park complex.
Once the fleeing vehicle stopped, police immediately arrested the driver, Johnny Mack Bryant, Jr., and charged him with Grand Theft of an automobile, trafficking methamphetamines, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) arrest report, GPD officers had initially attempted to stop the stolen white Hyundai Sonata. Officers had first spotted the vehicle in the area of Pineridge Apartments. While attempting to stop the car, GPD officers said that the driver of the Hyundai deliberately attempted to hit a GPD officer. Consequently, the officer narrowly dodged the car as the driver fled the scene.
