Police say a driver fled on foot after leading Washington State Patrol troopers and Thurston County deputies on a pursuit through Lacey and onto Interstate 5 Monday night. Initially, a trooper attempted to stop the southbound vehicle near milepost 113 after noticing suspected DUI driving behaviors. However, the vehicle sped away, exiting into Lacey where the driver ran multiple red lights before eventually heading back toward I-5. Meanwhile, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed spike strips against the fleeing vehicle. As a result, after re-entering the freeway near Nisqually, the damaged car slowed to a stop on the right shoulder, whereupon the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
A Chattanooga woman faces multiple charges, including receiving stolen property and felony eluding, following a high-speed police pursuit that began with a hit-and-run and ended with spike strips. Scottsboro Police officers responded to a hit-and-run near Walmart involving a black Chevrolet Avalanche. Officers spotted the vehicle in the area and attempted a traffic stop. Latasha Renee Sexton refused to stop. Police reported that Sexton drove increasingly recklessly—running a red light, weaving around vehicles, and reaching speeds over 100 mph. Sexton crossed the median, driving directly into oncoming traffic. Officers with the Hollywood Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit to assist Scottsboro police. Sexton eventually crossed back into the eastbound lanes. A Scottsboro officer successfully deployed spike strips, striking the vehicle’s tires. Sexton was quickly immobilized by law enforcement.
