Pursuit Involving Stolen Ambulance Ends After Stop Stick Deployment: In Memphis, Tennessee, a man engaged in a chase with local police in a stolen ambulance.  The pursuit ended after the successful deployment of Stop Sticks.

Vehicle Theft

In Memphis, Tennessee, an EMT driver was helping a patient from a stretcher into a wheelchair.  It was then when she noticed a missing ambulance from the entrance dock at the hospital.  The driver called 911 after reviewing video footage.  The footage showed a person going into the ambulance and driving away.  The ambulance had a GPS tracker, so the police were able to find a location, and bring the vehicle back to the hospital.

The Chase

Officers of the Memphis Police Department attempted a traffic stop with the stolen ambulance, but the driver refused.  This began a pursuit for some time that led to the driver hitting a Memphis Police squad car.  After some time during the pursuit, officers deployed Stop Sticks that hit the ambulance.  The Sticks deflated tires on the ambulance, and it came to a stop.

Aftermath

After the pursuit ended, the Memphis Police Department attempted to arrest the driver, who attempted to resist.  After a short struggle, the man was placed into custody.  The driver was identified as Reco Dickson, a 31-year-old male.  After investigation, officers found that the driver’s license has been suspended since 2013 due to failure to pay a citation.  Dickson also attempted to steal a police squad car, resisted arrest, and engaged in a physical altercation with officers in 2022.  Dickson is currently charged with Theft of Property $60,000-$250,000, evading arrest in vehicle pursuit, drivers to exercise due care, driving while license suspended/cancelled/revoked, and resisting official detention.
