Minister of the Interior Returns to Fight Against Burglaries: For the first time ever as Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau has visited the Vendée gendarmes and attended an operation in Les Essarts.

           Vendée Gendarmes

            The Vendée gendarmes are a military force with law enforcement responsibilities in western France.  Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau, an official responsible for public security as well as others.  Retailleau, a Vendée native, has returned to and visited the gendarmes to undergo a major operation to fight burglaries and refusals to comply.

The Meeting

            Retailleau’s message during the meeting was to “Make life impossible for offenders.”  He has also made it known that he believes the gendarmes have been doing a good job and his goal is to support and protect them from an increase in delinquency against them.  Retailleau was asked to describe the environment of Vendée and he replied: “a motorway crossroads.  Let’s not forget that delinquency follows the main lines.  Whether it is burglars, but also drug traffickers.  I want to make life impossible for delinquents, to wage war on them.”  Retailleau’s is enforcing a strict stance against the growing crime and deliquency for the gendarmes.

A Strict Warning

            Bruno Retailleau is from Vendée, and has “deep roots” in the area.  Because of this, he has an extra interest in keeping the environment safe.  He has also noticed a growing problem with drug trafficking, saying that restaurant owners have set up an international trade.  Retailleau even brought up a case from June 2023 in Puyravault where two bar managers in a small town were indicted for attempting to bring in cocaine from South America.  He mentioned this story as a warning that this can happen to Vendée.  Also, Retailleau has stated that he wants to be “in action” as long as he can: “We are a government of mission.  I want to use every moment.”

            Bruno Retailleau has made it clear that he is actively looking to make Vendée safer with the gendarmes.  He is making plans to seek out drug trafficking before it even begins.  He is also looking to put and end to the growing delinquency and burglaries in the area.
