1. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Newark Valley Man Arrested After Leading Police on Chase, Jumping in River to Avoid Arrest – New York & Pennsylvania

A Newark Valley man now faces multiple charges after leading police on a high-stakes pursuit through two states.
The incident began around 6:45 p.m. on March 1st, when the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office conducted a felony warrant check for David R. Keener on State Route 38. Although officers discovered Keener hiding inside a vehicle, he refused to surrender. Instead of complying with orders to exit, he hit the gas and fled the scene.
Consequently, a sprawling chase ensued as Keener led authorities through Owego and Waverly before crossing the state line into Pennsylvania. Eventually, the pursuit looped back into New York toward the town of Nichols.
To end the danger, officers strategically deployed Stop Stick® spike strips near the Tioga Downs Casino. The deflation devices successfully hobbled the vehicle, forcing Keener to a halt near the riverbank. In a final act of desperation, Keener jumped into the Susquehanna River to avoid capture; however, police quickly apprehended him and took him into custody.
What began as a 3 a.m. liquor theft at a Winfield gas station escalated into a chaotic, 30-mile high-speed chase through St. Charles County. Authorities say 18-year-old Connor Maquet and 20-year-old Corrail Jackson fled from deputies in a stolen vehicle, reaching speeds of 100 mph and forcing other drivers off the road.
The pursuit, which saw the suspects swerving into oncoming traffic while a passenger filmed the ordeal on a cellphone, only ended when officers successfully deployed Stop Stick® tire deviators (spike strips) in St. Peters.
Lincoln County Sheriff Rick Harrell didn’t hold back regarding the duo’s decision to run: “They weren’t smart enough to find some place else to be,” he noted.
Maquet and Jackson now face charges of tampering and aggravated fleeing. The investigation revealed a disturbing layer to the heist; two juvenile girls and a Mastiff were also inside the vehicle during the pursuit. While the dog was unharmed and returned to its owner, additional charges are being weighed regarding the suspects’ contact with the minors.
This isn’t Maquet’s first brush with the law. Just months prior, he was arrested in Peoria following a downtown crash involving discarded handguns and drugs. Thanks to the quick deployment of tire deflation technology, this latest “wild run” was cut short before any innocent bystanders were injured.

Monday, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigators, caught 8-suspects stealing high-value items of a stationary Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Freight Train. The theft was taking place just outside of Joseph City and involved a UHaul truck, a truck pulling a box trailer and a van. As officers arrived, the suspects fled. The van was stopped with spike strips at which time the suspects tried to run. All were caught. The other vehicles were found abandoned and the stolen items were returned to BNSF. All 8-suspects were identified as undocumented foreign nationals. The suspects were then turned over to federal authorities.

4. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Shasta County man arrested after high-speed chase in construction zones – California

OAK RUN, Calif. — A high-speed chase through construction zones on Highway 299 led to Shasta County Sheriff’s Office deputies’ arrest of a driver on Wednesday.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began when a vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Joshua Granberry, sped through a construction zone. The vehicle allegedly passed stopped cars, entered the oncoming lane, and was driving over 100 miles per hour.
Officers canceled the pursuit due to the driver’s dangerous behavior. However, Granberry continued through another construction zone at high speed.
Officials stated that California Highway Patrol officers used a spike strip to stop the vehicle near Moose Camp Road. Granberry exited the car with a hatchet but complied with officers’ commands and was arrested.

5. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Man arrested after I-10 pursuit in Pecos County, accused of assaulting officers – Texas

PECOS COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) – A man accused of assaulting law enforcement officers and leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit along I-10 was arrested Wednesday afternoon after authorities used spike strips to stop the vehicle.
According to Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, on March 4, deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. to a welfare check near the 233-mile marker on I-10 west of Fort Stockton involving a man driving an older model Chevrolet Impala.
When deputies saw the driver, he fled at a high rate of speed, initiating a pursuit that continued into Jeff Davis County, officials said.
Officials say, the pursuit ended after DPS troopers deployed spike strips. Authorities said the driver then lost control of the car.
Officials said a struggle happened before the driver was taken into custody.
Authorities identified the driver as Eduardo Ortero-Olguin, 34, of Mexico.
He was transported to Reeves County Hospital for treatment of injuries and later released, then booked into the Pecos County Jail.
Ortero-Olguin faces two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and evading arrest with a vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

A routine traffic stop in Sacramento exploded into an 80-mile mountain pursuit Thursday morning, ending only when the suspect ran out of road in the Sierra Nevada.
The incident began at 4 a.m. when Rancho Cordova Police attempted to pull over 41-year-old Matthew Holmes for a minor violation near Folsom Blvd. Instead of stopping, Holmes accelerated, igniting a chase that drew in multiple agencies. Soon after, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the pursuit as Holmes fled east on US-50, leading officers on a grueling two-hour climb toward Lake Tahoe.
To terminate the high-speed threat, officers strategically positioned Stop Stick® tire deflation devices near Gunmount on Echo Summit. As a result, the spikes successfully hobbled Holmes’ vehicle, forcing him to a halt near the Upper Truckee River. Despite the disabled car, Holmes refused to exit or even roll down his windows to communicate with negotiators.
To resolve the standoff, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and South Lake Tahoe Police deployed non-lethal methods to breach the vehicle’s windows. Following this tactical move, Holmes finally exited the car and surrendered to authorities.
Police booked Holmes on charges of felony evading and misdemeanor obstruction. Furthermore, he faces a bail enhancement, bringing his current total to $108,000. Ultimately, the successful deployment of tire deflation technology turned a dangerous 80-mile trek into a safe arrest before the suspect could reach populated tourist areas.

7. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Two face multiple charges following pursuit; two patrol vehicles disabled – North Carolina

Following a pursuit into Alamance County, during which the fleeing driver rammed two patrol vehicles, deputies arrested two people on multiple charges.
The pursuit began mid-afternoon yesterday when a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop after witnessing a motorist traveling on the opposite side of a double yellow line.
Barry L. Bradley, 50, and Heather N. Stallings, 42, both of Durham, first came to the deputy’s attention because of the above-mentioned traffic violation. Deputies pursued their vehicle south on I-85, witnessing several additional traffic violations. Troopers with the Highway Patrol successfully deployed stop sticks as the car entered Alamance County.

8. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Restraining order violation sparks Coos Bay police pursuit – Oregon

COOS BAY, Ore. – A police pursuit unfolded on March 2 involving a suspect violating a restraining order in Coos Bay, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, John E. Bailey, 57, led officers on a chase after resisting arrest. Deputies were investigating a restraining order violation on the 6300 Block of Third Road when Bailey arrived in his pick-up truck. He resisted arrest and fled the scene, sparking a pursuit through Bunker Hill, Coos Bay, and North Bend. The chase concluded on Wildwood Road with assistance from North Bend Police and Oregon State Police, who deployed spike strips. Coos County Jail records show Bailey is in custody as of March 4.

9. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Berkshire man arrested on felony charges after 28-mile police chase ends in Susquehanna River – New York

A dramatic two-state pursuit reached a splashing conclusion in Nichols, N.Y., after a suspect’s desperate attempt to outrun the law ended in the Susquehanna River.
The chaos ignited when law enforcement spotted a dark-colored SUV driven by David Keener, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants. Instead of surrendering, Keener led police into Pennsylvania on Route 220, hitting speeds of 95 mph. Throughout the chase, he showed a blatant disregard for public safety by running red lights, nearly striking other motorists, and intentionally swerving toward officers to force them off the road.
As the pursuit looped back toward the New York border, Keener’s evasion tactics grew even more aggressive. Following a failed traffic stop in Athens Township—where he revved his engine and nearly backed into officers—he sped away once more.
To finally gain the upper hand, a multi-agency team coordinated near Tioga Downs. Officers strategically deployed Stop Stick® tire deflation devices, which successfully hobbled the SUV and brought the high-speed threat to a crawl. Despite the disabled vehicle, Keener refused to give up; consequently, he abandoned the SUV and plunged into the Susquehanna River in a final, futile attempt to escape.
New York authorities quickly apprehended him, and he now faces a mountain of new felony charges across state lines. Ultimately, this incident serves as a stark reminder of how tire deflation technology safely terminates pursuits that span dozens of miles and endanger countless lives.

10. The Stop Stick Chronicles: Weekend crime crackdown leads to multiple arrests – Australia

Two men face numerous charges after a joint police operation ended a stolen vehicle spree in Melbourne.
The mission began at 9:00 p.m. when the Dog Squad spotted a stolen Toyota in Glen Waverley. According to investigators, thieves snatched the car from Narre Warren station earlier that day. While the suspects navigated streets, the Air Wing monitored their movements from above. Eventually, the helicopter tracked them into a car park at Mount Waverley station.
To prevent a high-speed pursuit, ground units strategically deployed Stop Stick® devices at the exit. Consequently, the strips punctured all four tires as the vehicle attempted to leave. Although the driver tried to continue, the deflated tires forced the car to a slow crawl. Finally, the vehicle came to a complete halt on Doncaster Road.
At that point, both 36-year-old occupants abandoned the car and fled into a nearby laneway. In a final attempt to escape, the pair jumped over a fence. However, officers quickly located and arrested them both.
Police charged the driver with motor vehicle theft and drug possession. Additionally, he faces several traffic offenses and remains in custody. Meanwhile, the passenger received similar charges and was released on bail.
