July-03-2025: Stop Stick News :The Power of Precision: Stop Sticks End Chaotic Pursuits Involving Stolen Cars and Burglary Suspects

An 18-year-old Homestead man, Sehven Rule, was arrested in Shaler following a police pursuit that began when an officer identified the car Rule was driving as stolen. Initially, the chase reached speeds up to 80 mph on William Flynn Highway.

However, officers successfully ended the pursuit through the crucial deployment of Stop Sticks. These tire deflation devices are designed to safely disable a vehicle by gradually releasing air from its tires. This intervention ultimately prevented a prolonged and potentially dangerous high-speed chase. Although Rule initially avoided the Stop Sticks by making a U-turn and striking a patrol car, officers subsequently deployed them successfully, bringing the vehicle to a halt. Furthermore, officers then used a police vehicle to pin the driver’s door shut, preventing Rule from fleeing on foot.

Consequently, Rule was arrested along with four other occupants, including three juveniles, ages 13 and 16, and one 18-year-old adult. Police stated that they believe these individuals were in Shaler to commit vehicle break-ins or burglaries, a crime that has been plaguing the area, often involving suspects arriving in stolen vehicles. Therefore, the use of Stop Sticks played a vital role in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion, protecting both the public and law enforcement officers.
