DECEMBER HOM WINNER

Midwest

Deploying Officer: Deputy Brian Rachuba

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office  – Michigan

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Rachuba helped capture a suspect that led several state agencies on a multiday man-hunt. After fleeing police in Toledo Ohio, where Bluffton Police originally attempted to stop the suspect who, refused to comply with the officer’s commands, and proceeded to flee. As officers followed in pursuit someone from inside the vehicle began shooting at the pursuing officers. The pursuit continued west until the suspect and passenger attempted to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.
The passenger was quickly apprehended, while the driver managed to evade police. Resorting to stealing a second car 2 miles away the suspect attempted to flee the state. After a BOLO report was issued the suspect was then seen the following day driving the second stolen vehicle. That’s when officers attempted to stop the suspect again. The suspect proceeded to attempt to flee again but the Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy was already prepared ahead of the suspect and was able to deploy Stop Stick® puncturing 3 of the 4 tires and causing the suspect to surrender without further incident
