Cross-State Crime: PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) —

Cross-State Crime: A high-speed pursuit that began in Gresham, Oregon, swiftly concluded across state lines in Vancouver, Washington, leading to the arrest of two teenagers. The incident underscored the critical importance of inter-agency cooperation and the effective use of pursuit-ending technology in stopping high-risk drivers.

The sequence of events began when a black BMW evaded Gresham police. Subsequently, the driver continued their flight, fleeing over the I-205 bridge and entering Washington state. Recognizing the significant public danger posed by a reckless driver engaged in felony evasion, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) took action. CCSO deputies were able to successfully utilize tire deflation devices, ultimately spiking the BMW and bringing the dangerous vehicular pursuit to an abrupt halt.

The two occupants of the vehicle, ages 14 and 16, attempted to flee on foot immediately after the BMW was disabled. However, the effective coordination of law enforcement ensured their escape was short-lived, and authorities quickly took them into custody.

Contraband Found Following Arrest

The true gravity of the situation became clear upon searching the vehicle. Police discovered a stunning array of illegal items and materials suggesting serious criminal activity. Inside the BMW, officers located approximately $200,000 in cash. Furthermore, the vehicle contained two guns, one of which had been reported stolen, along with multiple magazines, ammunition, and spent shell casings.

The car also served as a mobile drug distribution center. Officers seized 139 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and 217 grams of marijuana, packaged alongside various vape products. In addition, police recovered ski masks and a duffle bag, items often associated with theft or robbery, further detailing the scope of the suspects’ intentions.

Extensive Charges Filed Against Minors

The 16-year-old driver immediately went to the Juvenile Detention Hall. Consequently, he faces numerous serious felony charges. These charges include eluding police and reckless driving. Furthermore, he faces charges for drug possession with intent to deliver. Additionally, he received two counts of unlawful firearm possession. Other charges include resisting arrest and stolen firearm possession. Similarly, the 14-year-old passenger faces multiple charges. These include possession with intent to deliver and resisting arrest. Ultimately, the successful deployment of pursuit intervention tactics was essential. This action terminated the chase before it could harm the public.
