Arrests, Stop Sticks, and Stolen Guns:

This past Saturday night, the usual weekend chaos of an illegal sideshow erupted on Front Street, near CPKC Stadium and underneath the I-35 bridge, bringing traffic to a sudden, dangerous standstill around 11:30 p.m. Crucially, this time, the police responded swiftly and strategically. Working together, the KCPD and the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) prepared not just to disperse the crowd; they actively held participants accountable.

Tactics and Takedowns

MSHP troopers pursued three separate vehicles fleeing the scene. To ensure a safe and immediate end to the high-speed chases, officers deployed effective tools:

  • Stop Sticks to the Rescue: Two of the pursuits were brought to a decisive halt using stop sticks, the necessary tire-deflating devices. This key tactic resulted in the arrest of both fleeing drivers.
  • Tactical Intervention: Officers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) to end a third chase. The driver fled on foot, but officers detained a juvenile occupant and recovered a stolen firearm from the vehicle.

This aggressive use of stop sticks and TVI demonstrates that law enforcement is escalating its response to terminate these dangerous incidents immediately.

More Than Just a Nuisance

These events are far from harmless fun; indeed, they pose an extreme danger. For instance, a man was charged with manslaughter after allegedly running over and killing a 19-year-old spectator in 2022. Furthermore, gun violence killed another spectator in 2023. Beyond the violence, these sideshows also damage city property, such as the new Waldo street art.

Consequently, this successful crackdown sends a strong message. The KCPD, therefore, promises continuous disruption. Finally, if you encounter a sideshow, authorities urge you to call 911 immediately to provide accurate information to help police keep our streets safe.
