The second post-pandemic International Association of Chiefs of Police conference was held in October at the San Diego Convention Center, and it was a very interesting show.
Like most recent IACP shows, the 2023 edition was mostly about high technology used in law enforcement operations. There was software, and body cameras, and computers, and license plate recognition systems, the stuff that makes the IACP show the IACP show.
One of the questions that always has to be asked after attending IACP is what are the trends in law enforcement technology.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Suspect leads police on 10-mile chase after ramming police vehicle, Winston-Salem police say – North Carolina
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A traffic stop led to a chase and an arrest in Winston-Salem.
Police say that just after 8 p.m. on Thursday they tried to stop a Nissan Sentra for an unspecified equipment violation. When officers tried to block the vehicle during the traffic stop, they say the driver, identified as William Andrew Mitchell Jr., 31, rammed a police vehicle and drove away, heading northeast on Stanleyville Drive.
Officers began following the car and the sheriff’s office was called in, assisting by dropping stop sticks on Indiana Avenue. During the chase, police say that Mitchell threw drugs and a stolen gun out of his car.

MIDDLETON, Wis. — Dane County authorities say they arrested two young men early Wednesday morning after they tried to get away from police in a stolen car.
A Mercedes Benz that had been reported as stolen was first spotted by a Madison police officer near Portage Road on Madison’s east side. A Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputy later saw the same car on Highway M and began following the car, while other deputies stood by to potentially put down spike strips.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz eventually made their way to Highway K near Highway 12 north of Middleton, where they hit some of the spike strips. The driver tried to keep going on flat tires before stopping on the off-ramp to Airport Road.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Hungry Horse man arrested for firing shots, fleeing law enforcement – Montana
KALISPELL — A Hungry Horse man was arrested early on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, after firing a gun and then fleeing from law enforcement.
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle driving around Second Avenue South in Hungry Horse shooting a firearm at approximately 2 a.m.
Deputies located the vehicle and then attempted to stop the man, who has been identified as 42-year-old Michael Raymond Loncto.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Search underway for suspected pharmacy burglars in Calera – Wisconsin
Police captured two people, and two others are on the run, after an attempted pharmacy burglary in Thorsby.
According to the Calera Police Department, Thorsby officers chased four suspects after they stopped a burglary at a pharmacy. The chase ended on Highway 31 when Calera officers deployed spike strips.
All four suspects ran from the vehicle. Officers caught two of the suspects.
Video showed the remaining suspects heading away from a school just after 4 a.m.
While no one believes the remaining suspects pose a threat to the schools, officers will be present at both Calera Intermediate and Calera Middle Schools this morning.

Greetings everyone, as we come out of the busy bonfire period and approach the festive seasons I wish to update you all on the work the Inner South Neighbourhood Policing Team has undertaken.
The team, as you will appreciate, has been very busy helping to police a number of events such as bonfire night, remembrance parades and assisting with the protests/vigils in the city. They have however remained dedicated to the work on going in South Leeds.
The team has issued a number of public spaces protection order tickets (PSPO) in relation to the nuisance use of vehicles across South Leeds in particular the ‘car meets’ and use of off road bikes. The team are now all trained in the use of stinger/stop stick which gives them more options and contingencies (in certain circumstances} when dealing with nuisance vehicles.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Xenia man sentenced in Highland County Common Pleas Court for 4-county police chase – Ohio
A Xenia man received a two-year prison sentence recently in Highland County Common Pleas Court. He allegedly evaded law enforcement for nearly an hour and a half during a four-county, 91-mile chase.
As previously reported, a Highland County grand jury indicted Mark David Younker, 28, in October. The indictment included charges of failure to comply with a police officer’s order, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, and a forfeiture specification. Authorities alleged all the events occurred across Highland, Ross, Brown, and Clermont counties.
Younker pleaded guilty to the failure to comply charge and the forfeiture specification on November 21. The court dismissed the remaining charges.

State police said a 45-mile police chase that began in Mercer County came to an end in Wexford, Allegheny County. The incident happened on Thanksgiving Day, with police releasing information on Tuesday.Investigators said troopers tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation in the southbound lanes of I-79 in Mercer County. Police said the vehicle did not stop and a 45-mile high-speed chase continued, with state police in Butler using stop sticks south of exit 99.Police said the driver hit those stop sticks but continued on rims until exiting at Wexford and coming to a stop. The alleged driver, Britney Goodwine, 32, of Pittsburgh, is facing multiple charges including DUI and fleeing and eluding.Goodwine faces a preliminary hearing on Dec. 7.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Stolen car chase leads numerous law enforcement agencies on multi-county pursuit – Texas
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The end of a multi-agency law-enforcement chase that started in Port Aransas and ended just north of Edroy slowed traffic on Interstate 37 north Monday.
The chase began in Port Aransas after Pct. 4 Constable Chris Stimson’s deputies tried pulling over a Honda for speeding.
When officials ran the car’s registration, they realized the car was reported stolen in San Antonio and the chase began.
Port Aransas police shadowed the chase in the city and the Pct. 3 constable’s deputies assisted, as well as Pct. 5 deputies, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the San Patricio Sheriff’s Office, and Department of Public Safety troopers, which ultimately laid down spike strips in order to stop the car.
With deputies suspecting the driver was under the influence, Spokane Regional Air Support Unit’s Air-2 began tracking the fleeing U-Haul.

Thanksgiving Weekend Takedowns: Police chase ends in officer-involved shooting on I-240 and Lamar – Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police officer was involved in a shooting on I-240 and Lamar Monday morning.
According to reports, at around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a prowler call in the 1800 block of Eldorado Street.
Officers caught the suspects fleeing the scene in a car. A passenger pointed a gun at an officer. MPD then used stop sticks to stop the vehicle.
Once stopped, two suspects ran from the car. During a foot chase, one of the suspects pointed a gun at an officer.
