Posted by on in Company News

Bath Township Police Department Officer Dan Reilly was successful in ending a dangerous 4 mile high-speed chase with the use of Stop Sticks®. In the early morning hours of Friday, July 17, 2015 a 2000 Saab was spotted driving recklessly on Wheatley Road at Brecksville Road. When nearby Richfield Police pursued the automobile, the vehicle fled southbound on N. Cleveland-Massillon Road at speeds reaching 109mph. Richfield Police notified the Bath Township Police Department of the high-speed pursuit; which prompted Officer Reilly to step in. Officer Reilly strategically deployed a 9 foot set of Stop Sticks® in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The Stop Sticks® successfully punctured and flattened three tires, disarming the vehicle and bringing the suspect to a safe stop within ¼ mile. The driver, a 26-year-old Akron man, was taken into custody without incident on DUI charges. Thanks to Officer Reilly's quick response and confident decision to deploy the Stop Sticks®, the suspect was apprehended and no innocent citizens were harmed.

Stop Sticks® have been effective in ending over 25,000 vehicle pursuits in the U.S. by deflating tires of fleeing vehicles. They protect the public, law enforcement and suspects involved by stopping dangerous pursuits.

The Bath Township Police Department is comprised of 21 officers serving nearly 45,000 people in the Akron, Ohio area. They have been equipped with Stop Sticks® since 1995.
